UwP Issue 149 · Mar/Apr 2026
We are proud to share an exciting milestone: UWACAM has been featured as an equipment review in UwP Magazine. The review appears in issue 149 (Mar/Apr 2026), written by award-winning underwater cinematographer Matthias Lebo.
Matthias Lebo has been diving and filming underwater for more than 15 years. His philosophy: the best camera is the one you have with you — but hardware alone is not enough. Standard camera apps simply weren't built with the underwater environment in mind. Color casts, loss of reds, fluctuating contrast — these are constant challenges that generic apps leave entirely to the diver.
Matthias writes from direct experience with the Divevolk community and its Seatouch housings, where he has witnessed the full journey from beginner to advanced underwater creator.
According to Matthias, UWACAM stands out through four pillars: its comprehensive underwater focus, UWACOLOR, powerful processing, and genuinely intuitive controls. The app bridges the gap between beginners and professionals in a way no generic camera app can.
At the heart of it is a fundamental physics problem: water absorbs red and orange wavelengths first, leaving footage looking blue-green and flat. UWACAM addresses this with UWACOLOR — an automatic, dynamically adaptive color and contrast enhancement system that analyzes each frame and boosts color fidelity intelligently. Unlike traditional white balance sliders, UWACOLOR works in real time during capture and also in postprocessing directly within the app. It even supports RAW capture on compatible smartphones.
UWACAM's AUTO mode offers large, intuitive controls and sensible defaults — ideal for divers who want great results without complexity. The PRO mode goes all the way: exposure, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, bracketing, focus peaking, and zebra highlights — a feature set that rivals high-end dedicated underwater systems.
For video shooters, UWACAM supports the full range of device resolutions and frame rates, including HFR and HDR/Rec.2020. It also offers LOG recording on select devices, built-in LUTs, custom LUT import, and SMPTE timecode. UWACOLOR applies to video too — enabling real-time adaptive color correction while recording, or in postprocessing afterward.
After a dive, the Vizalyzer AI feature identifies fish and marine life, providing species names, behavioral context, and ecological information. As Matthias notes, this turns dive footage from simple recordings into educational and shareable narratives — adding a meaningful scientific and storytelling dimension to every session.
"I have personally seen Divevolk users transition from being intimidated by underwater cameras to confidently navigating manual settings and producing stunning footage — and UWACAM has played a central role in that journey."
The Android launch on January 17, 2026 was, in Matthias's words, a "major milestone that opens professional-grade underwater imaging features to a much broader part of the Divevolk community worldwide." UWACAM is now available on both iOS and Android, delivering the same professional-grade experience on both platforms.
To celebrate the Android launch, 30% off the first 100 yearly subscriptions is available with the code DROID30 entered directly in the app. This is a limited offer.
"Go out there and capture your awesome underwater adventures. And let the beauty you find beneath the surface shine like it truly deserves."
